Quad

Quad is the most common gutter in Australia, with a gently curved front face. It suits most brick and weatherboard homes from the 1960s onward and comes in a range of sizes. If your house has quad now, replacing like-for-like keeps the look consistent.

Square-line

Square-line has a crisp, flat front and suits modern, renovated and newer homes. It pairs well with Colorbond fascia cover and darker colours like Monument and Basalt for a clean, contemporary edge.

Half-round

Half-round is the traditional choice for period homes, Victorians and Edwardians, and is often paired with round downpipes. It's chosen for heritage looks more than capacity.

Size matters as much as shape

A gutter can only carry so much water, and its outlets and downpipes have to match. Larger roofs, steep pitches and big trees all call for more capacity. The plumbing standard for roof drainage also includes overflow requirements, so that when a gutter does overflow in extreme rain, water spills away from the house rather than into it.

Which one should you choose?

Match the style of the house first, then make sure the gutter, outlets and downpipes are sized for the roof. We'll recommend a profile with your quote and show you colour options from the Colorbond range.
